Trancers - Probably should be called 'Termi-runner' or 'Blade-nator'

Somewhere, somehow, 'Terminator' and 'Bladerunner' hooked up in some sleazy bar and, after one too many bevvies, got drunk.  Then, some nine months later, 'Trancers' came kicking and screaming into the world, being neither greater, nor wiser than the sum of its filmic parents.

We begin in the future where a cop, Jack Deth (seriously, don't laugh - this isn't a parody!), is charged with the task of hunting down rogue replicants, sorry - 'trancers,' only to find that one of them has only gone and sneaked off back in time to 1980s Los Angeles.  So now he has to catch the Number 39 overnight bus back to the past and stop him.  Or just travel through time.  Apparently, both are about as easy in the future.

I've never seen Tim Thomerson who plays the improbably-titled 'Jack Deth,' but he's certainly an interesting choice for the leading man.  I know back in the seventies and eighties the star didn't have to look like Brad Pitt to be the leading man, but Thomerson is, um, how can I put this politely - a little 'lived-in' to really come across as credible.  Especially when he's hooking up with women a couple of decades his junior - namely Helen Hunt, who plays the obligatory 'love interest.'

'Trancers' is hardly a great film, but, if you're in a 'forgiving' mood then there is still plenty of entertainment to be had.  Yes, the villain 'Whistler' is pretty forgettable and just turns up every now and again to scowl threateningly at our heroes, but the film has enough heart (and neon!) to make it a fun watch.  It's low budget, but the premise is actually pretty cool.  Okay, maybe not the parts ripped from superior films, but there are some nice touches that must have been pretty unique for the time (and even that films like 'X-men' and 'Avengers' have used these days!

If you're a fan of cheesy old sci-fi films then you should definitely give this one a go.

7/10 if I woke up on Groundhog Day and had to watch this again, I could live with that
